Project Overview
Project Goal
The goal of HomeBox was to design a secure and weather-resistant package storage solution that integrates seamlessly with residential environments. The project aimed to address package theft and environmental damage while exploring connected IoT features for user convenience and delivery efficiency.
About the Project
HomeBox is a smart package delivery storage system designed to protect parcels from theft and weather. Built with a stainless-steel body and secure locking system, it integrates with a companion app that uses a weight sensor to confirm deliveries and send real-time notifications. The project combines industrial design and IoT functionality to create a reliable solution for modern homes.

How it works

1. Delivery Authorization via NFC Scan
The delivery process begins when a courier arrives at the doorstep and scans the package’s tracking ID using the integrated NFC reader located on the top frame of HomeBox. This system not only verifies the delivery but also links it directly to the user’s HomeBox app. The use of NFC provides a quick, intuitive interaction, ensuring that the process is both secure and efficient—especially in high-traffic areas like apartment complexes.

2. Automated Frontdoor Access for Delivery
Once the tracking ID is authenticated, HomeBox’s front-facing door automatically unlocks, allowing the delivery personnel to place the package safely inside. The opening mechanism is designed for smooth and ergonomic use, ensuring that couriers can complete deliveries without friction, even when handling multiple items. The box’s capacity and interior layout have been optimized to accommodate various package sizes.

3. LED Interaction System

3. LED Interaction System
To guide both couriers and homeowners, HomeBox integrates a simple LED indicator system that communicates delivery status at a glance. For security and privacy, the LEDs activate only when a courier or homeowner is within close proximity, ensuring that delivery information is not exposed to passersby.

5. Secure Rear Access for Users
When the user returns home, they can retrieve their package through HomeBox’s rear access door, designed for easy and secure use from within the property. This separation of delivery and retrieval zones adds an extra layer of security and privacy, making it ideal for front porches, apartment hallways, or side entrances.
