Power, in the air
Problem & Insights
We live in a society where smartphones became more prominent than ever before and expected to grow in usage for the next few decades. To add, according to statcounter GlobalStats, in 2016, for the first time smartphone usage (52.67%) have exceeded PC usage (43.2%). However, while smartphone became more smarter and powerful, the battery technology could not catch these benefits that smartphones could be only be used for only a day or less. To solve these problems, third party companies of smartphones introduces battery bank, battery cases and more while smartphone OEMs developed wireless charging or fast charging to make this problem less attractive to the users.
While some users had benefit these solutions, they were still not satisfied. Through battery bank, we had to charge through wires while fast charging had negative effects in long-run(battery drain), and wireless charging through wireless pad were barely used as separate accessories. To improve user experience in smartphone’s battery usage, I tackled three solutions that was already in the market to one.
Reliability
Having battery bank for smartphones became critical for all heavy or light users that battery bank should be light and easy to carry around with minimal hesitation.
Wireless Technology
Wireless technology has affectively became industry standard for smartphones in recent trend. With that, more users want and use wireless charging capability.
Portability
Having battery bank for smartphones became critical for all heavy or light users that battery bank should be light and easy to carry around with minimal hesitation.
Compact yet Powerful
The thickness of battery bank is important when it comes to portability. Being able to carry around while taking the full advantage of the wireless technology and ergonomics, 16mm was the ideal thickness without compromising the benefit having both wireless and battery bank function.
Reliable and Ergonomic
The aluminum casing for AirBank works best in its’ field. With the inspiration from premium smartphones and laptops, the anodized aluminum surfaces are extremely smooth and rigid, while the rounded curves at both sides give extra ergonomic grip to hold.
Compatible with any Qi devices
The AirBank is compatible with any Qi-enabled smartphones. Qi wireless technology is the industry standard technology for almost all smartphones, while more phones integrates wireless technology.
Restful Pad
The rubber pad is an excellent material for resting smartphones. It protects from minor scratch and benefits full wireless technology to it’s best.
Fluid User Experience
Simple electronics tend to have simple user experience. This brings users confusion to where the product is used improperly. In multiple observations of other competitors , the user experience of battery bank is much focused on the LED indicator to observe how much capacity is left but limited in one or two colored LED.
White LED
White LED emits to show the capacity amount of its battery. Pressing the power button will emit five LED indicators to show how much capacity of AirBank is left.
Green LED
Green LED emits when AirBank is charging Qi-enabled devices. Just place Qi-enabled devices on top of the pad, it automatically charges and the indicator changes to green LED.
Red LED
Red LED emits when the AirBank is getting charged. Most electronic consumers has unconscious knowledge that the red lights in electronic means that it is getting charged or connected to power source.
